Step 6: After the Signing of the Real Estate Deed of Sale under French law
After the signing of the autenthic deed of sale, the notary completes all necessary formalities. In particular, they ensure the registration of the sale with the French Land Registry (SPF – Service de la Publicité Foncière).
Once these formalities are completed, the notary provides the buyer with an authenticated copy of the deed of sale, which serves as their title deed. This document is accompanied by any remaining balance from the buyer’s account opened at the notarial office for the transaction (usually the unused portion of the funds initially deposited with the notary).
Processing Time for Formalities
The time required for these administrative procedures can vary significantly, depending on the public authorities handling the registration. It may take several months or even up to a year.
